Dear Colleagues,
After many years of service, Dr. George Christakis will be stepping down from his position as Director, Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Department of Surgery. On behalf of the Department, I would like to take this time to thank George for his outstanding leadership in this position, and for the many innovative programs he initiated in this role.
In his place, Dr. Jeremy Hall has accepted the position of Director of UME in the Department of Surgery and will be responsible for all aspects of undergraduate education in the Department and report to the Vice-Chair, Education and the Chair, Department of Surgery. Dr. Jeremy Hall is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and trauma team leader at St. Michael’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hall was involved in the development of the fracture module of the groundbreaking Competency Based Curriculum in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is Deputy Director, Undergraduate Surgical Education, Surgery, University of Toronto; Associate Program Director, Undergraduate Surgical Education, Surgery, University of Toronto; and Orthopaedic Representative, Department of Surgery’s Undergraduate Education Committee (UEC), Surgery, University of Toronto.
The Director of UME in the Department of Surgery also works closely and shares responsibilities with the various academies and hospital medical education offices, the Clerkship Director and the office of the Vice Dean Undergraduate Medical Education in the Faculty of Medicine.
I am delighted that Jeremy has accepted this position given his wealth of knowledge in UME, and his devotion to teaching over many years.
