Residency in the Division of Vascular Surgery

In July 2012, the University of Toronto initiated a 0+5, direct entry Vascular Surgery Residency Training Program. This new program allows for a focused training effort of the next generation of vascular surgeons. Medical students apply directly for entry into the program through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS). Vascular surgery residents at the University of Toronto rotate through 6 possible training sites in vascular surgery including the University Health Network, St. Michael's Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, Trillium Health Center, Humber River Regional Hospital and Scarborough General Hospital. Residents are trained in both the medical, surgical, and endovascular treatment methods that are applicable to modern day treatment of patients with vascular disorders. Vascular surgery residents have the opportunity to apply to the Surgeon Scientist Training Program and complete a Masters or PhD level project in an area focused study that will prepare them for an academic career in vascular surgery.

The University of Toronto’s multiple training sites, diverse faculty, and wide breadth of research opportunities provide trainees at all levels with a rich experience that will more than adequately prepare them to be future leaders in vascular surgery.
