Best Global Universities for Surgery 2020-2021

Dear Colleagues,

For the second consecutive year, I am pleased to inform you that the 2021 US News And World Report has ranked the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto as 4th in the world.  I am absolutely delighted with this news, and was very pleased to see our ranking just behind Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pittsburgh.  Interestingly, from last year, UCSF displaced the University of Michigan for the 5th ranked position.

While rankings can vary from poll to poll, the inclusion of our Department in the upper echelon of all departments in the world is something we can all feel very proud of.  None of this would have been possible without your attention to outstanding clinical care, teaching, administration, and research.

In this regard, I thank all of you for your numerous contributions to the Department of Surgery.
