The Department of Surgery sends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Gelareh Zadeh, Dan Family Chair in Neurosurgery, Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto, who received one of two inaugural Canada Gairdner Momentum Awards.
The award recognizes Dr. Zadeh’s ground-breaking research on brain tumours, leading to a new molecular classification of one of the most common types of tumours. These findings present opportunities for more effective treatments, as well as predictions about patient outcomes and indications about the levels of treatment response. (Read more about Dr. Zadeh’s work on brain tumours in this article posted on the UHN website).
The Canada Gairdner Momentum Award annually recognizes two mid-career investigators working in Canada, who in their last six active years have produced exceptional scientific research contributions with continued potential for impact on human health. The Award comes with a $50,000 prize and will be presented to Dr. Zadeh during Gairdner Science Week in October 2023. Check the Gairdner Momentum Award website for more information about the award.
Congratulations, Dr. Zadeh, on this outstanding recognition! Your colleagues at the Department of Surgery, and at U of T at large, are very proud of your work, which showcases a perfect example of how our surgeons achieve scientific excellence and transform surgical care both, locally and globally.
Sincerely,
