Fellowship in Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery

Program Duration & Structure:

This is a one- or two‑year clinical fellowship. Fellows will be immersed in managing movement disorders, chronic pain, psychiatric disorders, and performing stereotactic procedures. The fellowship combines clinical exposure with elective rotations, lecture series, journal clubs, institutional rounds, conferences, and may include a research component (University Health Network).

Scope of Training:

  • Management of movement disorders: deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s, essential tremor, dystonia
  • Treatment of chronic pain: spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve and motor cortex stimulation, ablative procedures, trigeminal neuralgia operations
  • Surgical interventions for psychiatric disorders
  • Use of advanced stereotactic techniques: frame‑based procedures, image‑guided navigation, Gamma Knife radiosurgery, laser interstitial therapy, focused ultrasound
  • Neuromodulation technologies: intrathecal pumps, neurostimulator programming and troubleshooting (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, SpringerLink, University Health Network)
  • Program features structured educational activities: clinical/case rounds, teaching series, journal clubs, and optionally, research involvement (University Health Network)
