Dr. Bohnen graduated in Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1975, completed General Surgery training in Toronto in 1980, and studied Microbiology in Toronto for a year before taking two years' research training in Surgical Infections at McGill University in Montreal. After a year on staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto, Dr. Bohnen moved to the Wellesley Hospital in 1984, then to St. Michael's Hospital in 1999 when the two hospitals merged. Dr. Bohnen's clinical and scholarly interests include surgical infections, abdominal wall hernias, quality improvement, surgical education and practice standards. At the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Bohnen is a Professor of Surgery and Vice-Dean Clinical Affairs, having served as Director of Postgraduate Education and Vice-Chair Education in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Bohnen is a fellowship examiner and former Chair of the Specialty Committee in General Surgery at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
