Dr. Tom A. Schweizer is a Full Professor in the Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto, and a Senior Scientist at Unity Health Toronto. He serves in institutional leadership roles including Scientific Director of the Brain Health & Wellness Research Pillar at Unity Health Toronto and Co-Director of the Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science and Technology (iBEST).

His research focuses on concussion and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), using advanced and multimodal MRI to develop objective neuroimaging biomarkers of brain injury, recovery, and long-term outcomes. He leads large, multi-site and longitudinal studies examining persistent brain changes that extend beyond clinical symptom resolution, including how concussion and repetitive mTBI may influence long-term brain health and vulnerability to neurodegenerative processes. His work aims to improve recovery assessment, return-to-activity decision-making, and patient safety through imaging-based biomarkers that better reflect underlying brain physiology.
