Dear members of the surgical faculty,

To reflect the diversity of research trainees working with our faculty members, there will be a change in the criteria for giving an oral presentation at Gallie Day. Any trainee working with our faculty members will now be eligible to give an oral presentation, not just members of the Surgeon Scientist Program. One of the McMurrich awards will be used to recognize the best oral presentation by any research trainee who is not a member of the Surgeon Scientist Program supervised by one of our faculty members (e.g. graduate students and post-doc fellows). The Gallie Bateman prize will still be awarded to a member of the Surgeon Scientist Program as
per its Terms of Reference. Any trainee wishing to present an oral presentation should provide a short manuscript based on their work as per the enclosed instructions. Those submissions from trainees not selected for an oral presentation will be asked to present a poster in the poster session and competition.

The poster session and competition, in which several prizes are awarded, will continue as in past years. The poster presentation and competition is open to any trainee working with a member of our faculty. The application
process and adjudication process for the poster presentation awards will be similar to that used in past years.

The Research Committee members and I are very excited about opening up the oral presentations to a larger group of research trainees in the Department, and are looking forward to an increase in the quality and diversity of Gallie Day presentations. Please encourage all of the
trainees working in research with you to submit for either an oral or poster presentation at this year’s Gallie Day.
